Transitioning your outfit from work to weekend or a post-work evening event can be relatively simple and is a great way to get the most bang for your buck from your closet. It will also save you the headache and time of planning two separate outfits. The following are just a few different ways to accomplish this: winning outfit combinations, swapping out accessories and shoes, and adding a little drama with make-up and hair styling.

Winning Combos

The easiest way to transition a boring work outfit into a party appropriate one is by working in layers. A simple silk tank top can pull double duty when used as a classic undershirt for a blazer during the work day and as a solo piece when paired with skinny jeans once you leave the office. The same can be said for sheath or body con dresses. While a form fitting dress might not be the most appropriate for giving a presentation during a morning meeting, this can easily be disguised under a long and more conservative cardigan. Simply ditch the cardigan when you’ve clocked out of work and you will be good to go. Following the next tip will help you elevate this look up to even another level if needed.

Swap Out Accessories & Shoes

It’s amazing how much a look can change just by how you style it. In the above example of a form fitting dress styled with a cardigan, ditching the cardigan and swapping out accessories can create a completely different and much trendier silhouette and vibe. Simply swap out the shoes and/or jewelry for different ones. Instead of pearl studs, go big or go home with dangly statement earnings. If you favor delicate necklaces during the workday, try swapping in big statement beaded necklaces. This is extremely simple to do and the best part is that you can keep your post-work accessories in your handbag to make the switch so you won’t even need to go home to change before your event. The same can be easily done for shoes. Swap out your flats and shorter, more conservative heels for higher and/or more colorful heels, trendy booties, or strappy sandals and wedges.

Hair & Make-Up

Simply give yourself a winged eye or cat eye, swipe on a colorful lip, and you’re good to go. When it comes to hair, maybe you prefer a more simple style to keep things out of the way during the work day, such as bun, ponytail, or braid. Once your time at the office has been served, it’s time to let your hair down, literally. Adding luxury hair clip ins to your hair is an easy and time efficient way to boost the drama factor and look instantly more pulled together. A half up top-knot is another on trend option to differentiate your nighttime look from your workday look.
