Do you ever look through a closet full of clothes and still feel like you have nothing to wear? Have you ever gotten all dressed up, curled your hair, applied your full make-up routine, but still didn’t feel happy when you looked in the mirror? The bad news is that you may be in a style rut. The good news is that all you have to do to get out of said rut is to try something new and change things up.
Play With Color
If you take an inventory of your closet, you’ll likely find that you are drawn to certain colors. Some people may find that half of their closet is made up of black clothes while others may be drawn to pastels in every hue. Whenever a person is drawn to a color, they will buy it again and again. Take a look at what is in your closet and then, even more importantly, look at what’s NOT in it. Try buying a new outfit in a color you don’t normally wear and see how you feel. You might like the way you look.
Try That New Trend
Have you ever paged through a fashion magazine or seen a woman walking down the street and thought to yourself, “Wow, I love that outfit but it’s too ________ for me.” Your blank will be different than anyone else’s but it might be filled in with words like too feminine, colorful, monochromatic, modern, hippie, formal, trendy, etc. Whatever the word or case may be-- if you like it, then try it! Fashion reinvents itself every few years and you can too.
Change Your Hair
Maybe clothes aren’t the problem. Maybe it doesn’t matter what you wear—you just feel blah about your look. If that’s the case, try changing up your hair. If you have long hair, try a new style or cut. If you have thin or short hair and feel limited by your options, try using clip in hair extensions.
Clip in hair extensions are the perfect way to test-drive a new look since they are temporary and can be removed whenever you want. This is also a great way to try a fun look like brightly colored tips while still having the ability to take them out if you have a more formal work environment.
Rethink Your Make-Up Regimen
Most of us find a make-up routine that works and stick to it day in and day out. Maybe you change it up if there’s a really special occasion but for the most part you stick it to it and have it down pat. An easy way to easily change things up in an inexpensive and non-committal way is through make-up. If you normally wear pink lipstick, try wearing red. Replace brown eyeliner with black or a pencil liner with liquid eye liner. While you’re at it, maybe it’s time to give a cat eye a try with your new liner. The possibilities for transformation are endless.
