This is your in-depth guide to styling your Lauren Ashtyn Collection Topper from when it first comes out of the package!

We know it can be intimidating to style your topper from start to finish all on your own. That is why our experts are here to help you, with a step-by-step guide on how to style your topper. 

Receiving Your Topper

When you receive your hair topper, you will notice it has the signature Lauren Ashtyn Curl. Remember that all of our hair products are made from 100% European Remy Hair. This means the wave pattern or curl you see in the hair is not permanent and can be straightened or curled to seamlessly blend into your hair. 

Washing Your Topper

All of our toppers will be washed and blown out before we send them out to customers, but some customers like to wash their toppers as soon as they receive them.

To wash the toppers we recommend using our Extension Shampoo and Conditioner products.

You will start by wetting the hair with lukewarm water. You will then apply the shampoo in a downward motion, raking it through the hair with your fingers (avoid lathering and getting the shampoo into the mesh base). Rinse once more with lukewarm water to remove all of the shampoo. 

Apply the conditioner in the same manner as you did with the shampoo and rinse with ice cold water to help lock in moisture. 

You will then towel dry the topper, removing as much water as possible. 

Before putting any heat on the hair piece, we recommend spraying it down with the Lauren Ashtyn Collection Moisture Hydrate Spray and the Moisture Repair Spray to protect against heat damage and lock in moisture.

Drying Your Topper

To dry your topper, we recommend attaching it to our Lauren Ashtyn Mannequin Head. To secure your topper to the mannequin head, you will want to pin it down with T-pins. 

When you place the T-pins through the topper, make sure that they are going through the silicone, polyurethane edge that is on every topper. This will ensure that there is no damage made to the mesh base of your topper. 

We recommend using about 4-5 T-pins around the outer edges to attach your topper securely. 

*Pro Tip: When inserting your T-pins, make sure they are slightly angled towards the center of the topper*

Once your topper is secured on the mannequin head, you will need to part your topper to fit your needs using a wide-toothed comb. You will then blow dry your topper until it’s about 80-90% dry and finish blow drying using a ceramic round brush. You can then mist your dry topper with the Moisture Repair Spray again for some added heat protection.

Styling Your Topper

The last step is to style your topper so it can seamlessly blend into your hair. We recommend using hot tools, our favorite being the TYME iron Pro. 

When styling you can leave the piece on the mannequin head, as seen in this tutorial.

Or you can place it on your head and style it as you normally would, as seen in this tutorial.
