How to Style your Lauren Ashtyn Collection Wig

This is your in-depth guide to styling your Lauren Ashtyn Collection Wig from when it first comes out of the package!

We know it can be intimidating to style your wig from start to finish all on your own. That is why our experts are here to help you, with a step-by-step guide on how to style your wig.

Receiving Your Wig

When you receive your wig, you will notice it has the signature Lauren Ashtyn Curl. Remember that all of our hair products are made from 100% European Remy Hair. This means the wave pattern or curl you see in the hair is not permanent and can be straightened or curled to seamlessly blend into your hair.

Washing Your Wig

All of our wigs will be washed and blown out before we send them out to customers, but some customers like to wash their wigs as soon as they receive them.

To wash your wig, we recommend using our Extension Shampoo and Conditioner products.

You will start by wetting the hair with lukewarm water. You will then rub your shampoo in your hands and apply it to the hair.

*Expert Tip: Apply the products in a downward motion onto the hair and avoid circular hand motions during washing. We recommend finger combing the product into the hair. This will prevent your wig from tangling.

Rinse with lukewarm water to remove all of the product.

You will then apply your conditioner the same way. Let conditioner sit for about 10 minutes to allow the hair to absorb all of the moisture.

Rinse with ice cold water - this will close the cuticle of the hair ensuring smoothness.

You will then towel dry the wig, removing as much water as possible.

Before putting any heat on the hair, we recommend spraying it down with the Lauren Ashtyn Collection Moisture Hydrate Spray and the Moisture Repair Spray to protect against heat damage and lock in moisture.

Drying Your Wig

To dry your wig, we recommend attaching it to our Lauren Ashtyn Mannequin Head. To secure your wig to the mannequin head, you will want to pin it down with T-pins (included with your head).

When you place the T-pins through the wig, make sure that they are going through the thicker fabric that is lining the back half and sides of the wig.  This will ensure that there is no damage made to the fragile mesh at the front of your lace wig.
We recommend using about 4-6 T-pins around the outer edges to attach your wig securely.

*Expert Tip: When inserting your T-pins, make sure they are slightly angled towards the center of the wig*

Once your wig is secured on the mannequin head, you will need to part your wig to fit your needs using a wide-toothed comb. Mist your wig with our Moisture Hydrate Spray and Moisture Repair Spray for extra conditioning and heat protection. You will then blow dry your wig until it’s about 80-90% dry and finish blow drying in sections, using a ceramic round brush.

Styling Your Wig

The last step is to style your wig (This is the fun part!). We recommend using hot tools, our favorite being the TYME iron Pro

When styling, we recommend you leave the piece on the mannequin head, as seen in this tutorial.

No matter how you decide to style it, make sure you finish the look off with our #1 recommended hairspray: The Moroccanoil Finishing Spray. This will ensure your hairstyle stays fresh all day long without drying out the hair or compromising your texture.
