The Stages of Female Patterned Baldness
Hair loss happens amongst all different types of people, male and female. At the Lauren Ashtyn Collection, we meet many different clients who are experiencing different stages of female patterned baldness. It can be a devastating and confusing event in a woman’s life, but we believe the best way to deal with it is through education and finding a fix that works best for you.
What is Female Patterned Baldness
Female patterned baldness is a type of hair loss specifically in women that causes one to lose the hair on their head. It can also be called female pattern hair loss or androgenic alopecia. There can be many different factors affecting this hair loss but the most common is menopause.
It is always best to seek medical advice and attention before receiving treatments or making any big decisions regarding your hair loss issues.
What Are The Stages of Hair Loss?
Yes, there are stages in hair loss. Some women experience all of them until most of their hair is gone and some women’s condition will plateau somewhere in between the first and final stages.
Stage 1
This stage sees little to no hair loss. Stage one can also be described as hair thinning, which happens to most women once they reach a certain age.
Stage 2
At this stage you will start to see a gap in your center hair part and on the crown of your head.
Stage 3
In stage three, the gap will start to widen in the middle part line and there will be a more noticeable amount of hair loss on either side of the part and on the crown of the head.
Stage 4
In stage four you will start to see bald spots towards the front of the hairline.
Stage 5
This is the advanced hair loss stage and it varies. Some women start to see large patches of hair loss all over their head, while others start to see a receding hairline and thinning hair on top.
What Are Your Options?
When dealing with hair loss in women, there are many options available.
If you are looking to grow your natural hair back, you will need to receive treatments. This is a great option for some women but the treatments are not guaranteed to work and can sometimes have unwanted side effects such as unwanted hair growth in other areas.
One of the most simple ways to handle hair loss is through wigs, hair toppers, and/or extensions. This is an immediate and non-permanent solution that we see a lot of women making nowadays.
Preventing Hair Loss
We receive this question all the time: How do I stop hair loss? While there are no sure ways of fully preventing hair loss, there are ways to help slow down female hair loss and possibly prevent further loss.
Eat More Protein
The average female needs 40-60 grams of protein each day. Not eating enough protein has been linked to hair thinning and hair loss in women.
Take Vitamins
Certain vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, B, C, D, E, zinc and iron, help maintain healthy hair. And always make sure to check with your doctor before taking any new vitamins or supplements!
Prevent Stress
We know this is a tall order and there is always day to day stress, but it is a good practice to limit the amount of stress you are dealing with. Stress and anxiety have been linked to thinning hair in women. We recommend having a self care routine in place for those days when the stress and anxiety are weighing heavy.
Living with Female Patterned Baldness
Hair loss in women is a more common problem than you might think. Approximately 30 million women in the U.S. experience some form of hair loss. So there is no need to feel alone.
There are so many ways to address your hair loss and regain your confidence.
