How Our Wigs Are Made
All of our wigs are hand-tied 100% Remy human hair. The top is completely hand-tied, strand by strand, into a 4″ × 4″ multidirectional skin top, which means your wig can be parted in any direction, just like your own hair. The cap has a stretchy band with clasps so it is fitted to your exact head size, and two clips sit on each side near your ears so it can be clipped in for extra security. If you have no hair at all, you can wear our wig with a silicone wig gripper.
It lets you put your part wherever you want it, and move it. Most wigs are built with a single pre-set part, so the moment you try to move it you find the seam underneath. Ours has no fixed part to give away. Because the 4″ × 4″ top is knotted by hand in every direction, the hair falls naturally whichever way you comb it: center part one day, deep side part the next, swept back off your face, or pulled into a half-up. The skin top reads like scalp, so what people see at your part is the same thing they would see on your own head.
A hand-tied wig is knotted one strand at a time rather than sewn in machine-made rows, called wefts. Wefts are quicker and cheaper to produce, and they are the reason a lot of wigs sit stiff, look bulky at the roots, and move as a single sheet instead of like hair. Knotting each strand individually gives the hair room to move on its own and fall the way real hair falls. Every strand in a Lauren Ashtyn piece is triple hand-knotted, and a single piece takes 45 to 60 days to make. That is the trade: it is slow to build, and it is the reason it does not read as a wig.
Yes. Every wig is 100% European premium Remy human hair. Remy means the strands are all kept running in their natural direction with the cuticles aligned root to tip, which is why Remy hair stays smooth and resists the tangling and matting that processed hair develops after a few washes. In practice it behaves like the hair you were born with. You can wash it, blow it out, curl it, straighten it, and flat iron it. You can also deposit color or tone it to match your own shade, and plenty of our clients have their stylist do exactly that. The one rule is never bleach it: lightening permanently alters the quality of any human hair, wig or otherwise, and it cannot be undone.
Two things hold it, and neither one is glue. First, the fit: the cap is built with a stretchy band and clasps at the back, so you adjust it to your exact head size rather than hoping an average fits you. Second, the clips: there are two on each side, positioned near your ears, so the wig clips in for extra security right where it tends to lift. Between the adjusted band and the side clips it holds through an ordinary day, with no adhesive, no tape, and nothing bonded to your scalp.
Yes. If you have no hair of your own to clip into, wear the wig over a silicone wig gripper. The gripper sits against the scalp, gives the cap something to grab, and keeps everything exactly where you put it, again with no adhesive. That is the setup we recommend for women dealing with total hair loss, whether from alopecia, chemotherapy, or another cause. If you still have some hair of your own, the clips alone are usually enough, though plenty of women use a gripper anyway simply because they like how secure it feels.
With proper care, up to three years, though the honest answer is that it depends on how you wear it. Lifespan comes down to which products you use, how often you wash it, how often you wear and style it, and how much heat you use. Someone wearing one piece every single day will get less out of it than someone rotating between two. Wash every four to six weeks with sulfate-free products, air dry whenever you can, and always use a heat protectant before hot tools. Treat it the way you would treat expensive hair, because that is what it is.
Choose your color first, then your length on the product page. Every wig comes in 6-8″, 16-18″, 20-22″, and 24″. If you are torn between two shades, go with the lighter one: because it is human hair, you or your stylist can deposit color to go darker, but we never recommend buying darker and lightening it.
