It’s no secret that our number one question we receive from women interested in our hair products is “But can I wear my favorite hairstyles with it?”
When struggling with thinning hair or hair loss, it can be incredibly difficult to feel like your true self. Hair toppers and wigs can be a big help in giving you back your confidence, but for a lot of women, it can still be a struggle if they are unable to do their favorite updos or hairstyles.
Our creator and founder, Lauren Ashtyn, understands this and therefore created our line of toppers that are 100% human hair, lightweight and come in 30+ color options. Our toppers are designed to offer full, natural looking coverage while also acting as your bio hair. This means you can curl, straighten, twist, braid, etc. just as you would with your real hair and no one will ever know you’re wearing a topper!
Topper Hairstyles to Try
We have collected a number of pictures and videos that show our stylists and even Lauren Ashtyn herself showing how you can style your topper in fun and new ways. These styles can give your style and hair new life and we highly recommend trying these out!
Braided Half-Up
Our stylist Kimmie came up with this cute half-up hairstyle while on our salon pop-up tour! In this photo, she is wearing an Audrey Light Volume. Her topper gave her the added thickness she wanted for her braid while also giving some volume on top.
This style was created by dutch braiding the top half of her hair on both sides. Once the two braids met in the back center of her head, she tied both off with a rubber band. She then created a large, messy bun with the two tied off braids.
If you are not able to dutch braid your own hair a good alternative would be to section off two large sections of hair in the front and braid those. You can then pull the braids back into the bun style. You can even fan out the finished braids to make them appear thicker!
Styling tips:
- Make sure to use your bio hair and topper in the braided style. This will create a more natural and cohesive look!
- Use a volume boost powder or spray to get even more volume on top.
- Use a texturizer spray or powder to give your hair a stronger hold and keep the style lasting all day!
Claw Clip Updo
We snapped this shot of Lindsey, our marketing director’s styled topper and we love it!!
She is wearing a customized light volume topper to give her style a more polished and volumized look. This is such an easy hairstyle to recreate. Start by sectioning out the shorter front pieces in your hair (make sure to use a mixture of your bio hair and topper hair for a more seamless and blended look). You can also skip this step if you’d rather have a slicked back, sleek look.
Take your remaining hair and create a twist, folding the ends of your hair up towards the crown of your head. Then you can secure it with a claw clip of your choosing. Once the hair is secured you can play around with pulling pieces out or fluffing the top of your hair like Lindsey did!
Styling Tips:
- Use a texturizing spray to give your hair more hold and body.
- If you are styling a more sleek look, try using a gel or hairspray to help hold the hair in place.
- For the best results on the face framing pieces, make sure to blend the topper hair with your bio hair by lightly teasing and brushing your hair at the roots or curling the hair together.
Messy Bun Style
Our stylist, Brittany, loves to find new ways of styling her hair topper. She is wearing a customized light volume. This topper gives her the added thickness she wants without the bulk.
For this style, you’ll want to start off with parted hair. Gather all your hair and place it in a ponytail elastic, wrapping it around a few times. On the last pull through, make sure to pull your hair only halfway through the elastic, creating a simple bun. Once your hair is secured, you can play around with pulling out face framing pieces, fluffing the top of your hair and adjusting the shape of your bun. This is a simple and quick hairstyle that can be dressed up or down.
Styling Tips:
- Curl or straighten your hair with your topper in before pulling it back. This will create a more blended look with your topper.
- Elevate the look with a headband, barrette, or ribbon.
Mini Bun
Our stylist, Traci has a go to hairstyle with her topper. She is wearing a Customized Light Volume and loves the root coverage and volume it gives her. This simple hairstyle is another that anyone can do!
Start by sectioning off the top half of your hair. If you have face framing pieces, go ahead and section those out as well. Take your top section of hair and use an elastic to secure the hair into a simple bun.
Once the hair is secured, you can style your face framing pieces by curling/straightening them as you normally would.
It’s really that simple!
Styling Tips:
- For a perfectly blended topper, make sure you brush the topper and your bio hair together.
- When sectioning your hair out, make sure you use a mix of your bio hair and the topper if possible.
- Use a texturizing spray for a more lived in, effortless style.
Elevated Pigtails
Our owner Lauren Ashtyn loves to experiment with new hairstyles that work with our toppers and wigs. In this video, she is actually wearing our 24” Giselle Balayage wig. She loves being able to change up her look on a daily basis and the freedom wigs can give.
To create this hairstyle, start with your hair parted in the middle. Section off your two pigtails, being sure to leave out face framing pieces. Use small elastics to tie off your two pigtails. Once your hair is secured you can adjust your hair for the desired volume. This style will work on a topper as well as a wig.
Want to switch it up? You can create buns instead of pigtails.
However you customize this look, the style will definitely spice up your hair routine!
Styling Tips:
-
Try this style on straight hair, curly hair, or waves. The style will look different depending on your hair texture. Find what you like most!
-
Make sure you finish your look with a hairspray to protect your style from flyaways and humidity
We hope this answers the question, "Can I wear my favorite hairstyles with my topper or wig?" The answer is "Yes! Absolutely!" Our toppers are made by women for women, so you can rest assured that your hair topper or wig will be a versatile piece that that doesn't limit you but opens up new possibilities.
