How is this wig made?
Every wig is 100% European Remy human hair. The top of the wig is 100% hand-tied, hand knotted strand by strand, so you can part it in any direction, just like your own hair. It has a stretchy band with clasps so the wig is fitted to your exact head size. Two clips sit on each side so it can be clipped in for extra security near your ears. If you have no hair at all, you can wear it with a silicone wig gripper.
What does a multidirectional top do?
It lets you put your part wherever you want it, and move it. Most wigs are built with one pre-set part, so the moment you try to move it you find the seam underneath. Ours has no fixed part to give away. Because the top is knotted by hand in every direction, the hair falls naturally whichever way you comb it: center part one day, deep side part the next, swept back off your face, or pulled into a half-up. The top reads like scalp, so what people see at your part is what they would see on your own head.
Why does a hand knotted top matter?
A hand-tied top is knotted one strand at a time rather than sewn into machine made rows, called wefts. Wefts are quicker and cheaper to make, and they are why so many wigs sit stiff, look bulky at the part, and move as one sheet instead of like hair. Knotting each strand on its own gives the hair room to move and fall the way real hair falls, and it is the reason there is no seam under your part. Every strand in the top of a Lauren Ashtyn wig is triple hand-knotted, and a single wig takes 45 to 60 days to make.
Who designs Lauren Ashtyn wigs?
Lauren Ashtyn does. She is a licensed hairstylist with years behind the chair, and she grew up in a hair salon as the daughter of a stylist, so she understood real hair and real hair loss long before she ever built a wig. She designs the cap, the density, the hairline and every color herself, and each one is worn and worked on by licensed stylists in our own salons before it goes into production. That is the difference between a wig designed by a stylist who has to make it look right on a real client, and a wig designed to be cheap to manufacture.
Is it real human hair?
Yes. Every wig is 100% European premium Remy human hair. Remy means the strands all run in their natural direction with the cuticles aligned root to tip, which is why Remy hair stays smooth and resists the tangling and matting processed hair develops after a few washes. You can wash it, blow it out, curl it, straighten it, and flat iron it, and you can deposit color or tone it to match your own shade. The one rule is never bleach it: lightening permanently alters the quality of any human hair, and it cannot be undone.
How does the wig stay on?
Two things hold it, and neither one is glue. First the fit: the cap has a stretchy band and clasps at the back, so you adjust it to your exact head size rather than hoping an average fits you. Second the clips: there are two on each side, positioned near your ears, so the wig clips in for extra security right where it tends to lift. Between the adjusted band and the side clips it holds through an ordinary day, with no adhesive, no tape, and nothing bonded to your scalp.
Can I wear one with no hair at all?
Yes. If you have no hair of your own to clip into, wear the wig over a silicone wig gripper. The gripper sits against the scalp, gives the cap something to grab, and keeps everything exactly where you put it, again with no adhesive. That is the setup we recommend for total hair loss, whether from alopecia, chemotherapy, or another cause. If you still have some hair of your own, the clips alone are usually enough.
How long will it last?
With proper care, up to three years, though it depends on how you wear it: which products you use, how often you wash it, how often you wear and style it, and how much heat you use. Wash every four to six weeks with sulfate-free products, air dry whenever you can, and always use a heat protectant before hot tools.
How do I choose my color and length?
Choose your length above. If you are torn between two shades, go with the lighter one: because it is human hair, you or your stylist can deposit color to go darker, but we never recommend buying darker and lightening it. If a shade is hard to judge on screen, which rooted and multi-tonal colors usually are, send us photos of your hair in natural daylight and a licensed stylist will match you for free before you order.

This is my 3rd topper. The other 2 I bought at pop ups. I had previously purchased a 3rd online and it did not work for me so I returned it for credit. I finally decided to try it again and I couldn’t be happier. This topper actually came ready to wear after changing the part and styling. No cutting or thinning needed like the other 2. I was so happy. The hair on this one is actually a much thinner/finer strand, more like my natural hair which makes a huge difference.

After watching facebook videos for almost two years, I finally decided to get a topper. I had a consult, and I knew exactly which topper would be the right one for me. And it arrived really quickly. I was a little disappointed when I first got it because my hair was obviously a different color. I went to a new salon, and the lady is some sort of a color wizard because was able to match my hair to my topper. It feels so light on my head almost like I don't even have it on. I'm still getting used to having longer hair as I chose to not cut it to the same length as my hair. I can wear it up or down and I feel so much more confident, having more hair on my head. I took the topper to my hair stylist who did a great job creating highlights in my natural hair to match the topper (definitely be prepared to do that if you order online). It took almost a month for my hairstylist and I to find a day that we could do a cut and color. We added low light brown to it and styled it. It looks great! I need to play with it more to figure out the hair line were I feel like I can see the topper. But today was the big day!!

I love the marigold light volume hair topper on me. It is much better than the hand painted Peyton I got from a pop up that was too dark. So basically I didn’t wear it. If I had it to do over I would have made sure I was shown much more options when I went to that. I basically just settled and hoped I would like it more.
I ordered a hand painted marigold which I love and it blends really well with my hair. If you are choosing between two shades, we generally suggest the slightly lighter one: because every piece is 100% human hair, you or your stylist can deposit color to go darker. We never recommend buying darker and lightening it, as bleaching permanently alters the quality of any hair.
Can I color, tone or add a root to my human hair wig to match my hair?
Yes, we do it all the time, and it is worth knowing before you rule a shade out. Because every wig is premium human hair, a licensed stylist can hand color a root onto any shade in the range, add lowlights, or put a toner through it to blend it closer to your own hair. A solid shade is a starting point rather than a limit.
The one rule: never bleach it. Bleach permanently alters the quality and longevity of any human hair, so always use a deposit-only color or a toner rather than lightening.

Will my wig look natural, or will people be able to tell I am wearing it?
No, not if it is fitted and styled to you. A wig covers everything, so there is no blend line to manage, but it still needs to be cut and styled the way you want to wear it, and the cap adjusted so it sits at your natural hairline.

How do I choose between a light volume topper, full volume topper, or a wig?
It comes down to how much coverage you want. Our Light Volume topper has a 3″ x 5″ base for early or fine thinning, our Full Volume topper has a 5″ x 6.5″ base for fuller coverage and more advanced thinning, and a wig gives complete coverage. How does a wig attach, and will wearing one damage my own hair?
Every Lauren Ashtyn wig is designed for zero damage to your own hair when it is fitted and worn correctly. No glue, no tape, no surgery, and you can take it off any time.
Two things hold it, and neither one is adhesive. The cap has a stretchy band with clasps at the back, so you adjust it to your exact head size rather than hoping an average fits you. Then there are two clips on each side, positioned near your ears, which clip into your own hair for extra security right where a wig tends to lift. If you have no hair of your own to clip into, wear it over a silicone wig gripper instead.
Damage from any hair piece comes down to one thing: tension on the clips. Put as much of your own hair into each clip as you can, and never let anything pull on the clips while the wig is on your head. That is exactly why you should never shampoo or blow dry a wig while you are wearing it: a round brush pulls on the clips and on the hair sitting inside them.
One honest note. Most of our clients are already experiencing some form of hair loss before they ever come to us, and that hair loss carries on to its own timeline. If you are ever unsure, bring your wig to a consultation and we will check how you are fitting it.
Can I sleep, shower, swim or blow dry my wig while wearing it?
No to all of them, and it is the same reason every time: each one puts tension on the clips and on the cap while you are wearing it.
- Sleeping: take your wig off at night.
- Showering: do not shower in it. Washing does not need the wig on your head at all, you simply hand wash it.
- Blow drying and styling: never on your head. We use mannequin heads to blow dry and style every wig, and we sell them, so you can do exactly what we do.
- Swimming: we do not recommend going underwater in it. At the pool or the beach, put your hair up in a claw clip or a ponytail so it stays dry.
None of this is fussy. It is the difference between a wig that lasts a year and one that lasts three.
How long does a human hair wig last, and how do I care for it?
With proper care, up to three years or more. The honest average is that someone wearing a wig every single day replaces it about once a year.

What are your shipping, exchange, and payment options?
Every order is hand-styled by our team before it ships, usually within 3-5 business days, then arrives in about 3-5 days in the USA and 7-10 days internationally. Every order is tracked and insured, and you can pay over time with Shop Pay or Affirm.
Why the window is only 24 hours. Every piece is 100% human hair. We will never take back hair that someone has worn and send it on to another client, and a short window is what makes that promise possible. The policy protects the next woman who orders exactly as much as it protects us.
If the shade is a little off, you may not need an exchange at all. Our pieces are made to be finished by a stylist. A shade that is slightly too light can be toned or darkened in person, and the piece is cut and blended to you anyway, which is why we suggest ordering one shade lighter when you are torn between two. The only thing we never recommend is bleaching it. Once a piece has been cut or colored it is yours to keep, so if you would rather exchange than customize, tell us within the 24 hours. And if you are unsure before you order at all, a free consultation with one of our licensed stylists takes the guesswork out completely.
We do not offer returns or refunds on any purchase. We do offer a one-time exchange on eligible online orders: contact us within 24 hours of delivery, the piece must be unworn, uncut, uncolored and unaltered, and it must ship back within 48 hours by UPS (not USPS), with exchange shipping paid by the customer. You then have two weeks to choose a replacement, after which we issue store credit valid for one year.
Salon and Pop-Up Salon purchases are final sale. When you buy in person you see the piece, try it on and check the color and quality for yourself, then sign to confirm you have inspected it and that all sales are final, and your stylist cuts and blends it to your own head before you leave. Lauren Ashtyn Signature Color is one of our standard shades colored to order and shipped to you, so it is eligible for the same one-time exchange as every other color. Do your human hair wigs have a darker root?
It depends on the shade. There are three cases across our wig range.
- Solid, no root. One color from root to end: Adele, Adrianna, Bella, Blanch, Faith, Grace, Hope, Marilyn and Midnight.
- A 1 inch darker root on our standard shades: Amber, Audrey, Darci, Ella, Elsie, Giselle, Katniss, Mila, Nicole, Priscilla, Sophia, Summer and Victoria.
- A 3 inch darker root on every Balayage shade.
A darker root matters because it mimics your own regrowth, so the part reads as hair growing out of your scalp rather than a wig sitting on top of it. The deeper the root, the longer you can go between color appointments before your own regrowth stops matching.
If you love a solid shade but want a root, a licensed stylist can hand color one onto any wig in the range, and can add lowlights or a toner at the same time. Because it is 100% human hair, a solid shade is a starting point rather than a limit.
What is the difference between a wig shade and its Balayage version?
The color is identical. The only difference is the length of the root: 3 inches instead of 1 inch. Amber and Amber Balayage are the same warm golden blonde, and the Balayage simply carries a 3 inch darker brown root. Elsie and Elsie Balayage are the same ash blonde. Nothing else about the color changes.
Seven shades have a Balayage version: Amber, Audrey, Ella, Elsie, Giselle, Mila and Victoria. Choose the Balayage if you stretch your color appointments, already wear a deep rooted color, or simply want more shadow through the part.
Balayage is not made in our 6-8 inch wigs. On hair that short a 3 inch root would take up most of the wig and would read as grown out roots rather than as a balayage.
