Wearing Your Hair Topper or Wig
Clipping in, how it feels through the day, sleeping and swimming and working out, and what to do if your hair is very fine or you have none at all.

How do I clip in my hair topper, and how long does it take?
A few seconds, once you know the routine.
Position the base over the area you want to cover, then secure each clip into your natural hair, starting at the front and working around the crown. The lightweight, breathable base sits comfortably and blends with your own hair.
If you are new to it, don’t worry — like any new routine it gets easier quickly, and most clients are confident within a minute or two after a little practice.

Can I sleep, swim or exercise while wearing my piece?
We recommend removing your piece before sleeping, swimming, or anything that exposes it to heavy moisture or friction. It protects the quality, appearance and lifespan of the hair.
Sleeping — take it off before bed. Sleeping in it causes tangling and friction and shortens the life of the hair.
Swimming — chlorine, saltwater and prolonged water exposure dry out and damage human hair. Remove your piece where you can.
Exercising — light everyday activity is generally fine. For a high-intensity workout, or if you expect to sweat heavily, take it off first. If you do exercise in it, let it air dry completely afterwards and brush it gently.
Will the clips hold if I have very fine or fragile hair?
In most cases yes. Our clips are pressure-sensitive with built-in silicone grippers, designed to hold securely while staying gentle on the hair they attach to.
If your hair is very fine or fragile, a topper gripper worn underneath adds security without extra tension, and shifting the clip placement slightly from day to day avoids the same strands always taking the weight.
If you are unsure whether you have enough hair to clip into, send photos during a free consultation — this is exactly the kind of thing our Hair Experts assess.
Can I wear a wig if I have little or no hair?
Absolutely. Our human hair wigs can be worn with or without natural hair.
If you have little or no hair, the clips come out and the wig is worn with a Velvet Wig Gripper instead — a soft band that holds it securely and comfortably, with no adhesives needed.
Every wig also has an adjustable stretchy band with clasps, so the fit can be tailored to you.
Are your pieces suitable during chemotherapy or for alopecia?
Yes. Our collections are designed for women experiencing hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia and other medical conditions, with comfort, confidence and a natural appearance in mind.
If you have some natural hair, our toppers use clips with built-in silicone grippers that hold securely while remaining gentle.
If you have little to no hair, our wigs can be worn without the clips, paired with a Velvet Wig Gripper for a secure fit without adhesives.
Every hair loss journey is different, which is why consultations are free. Our Hair Experts will help you choose based on your level of hair loss, lifestyle and preferences. If you are exploring insurance reimbursement, see our insurance guidance.
Does wearing a topper make your head hot?
No. The micro mesh base is completely breathable, so it is the same amount of warmth as having that much hair naturally.
Can I wear a topper with a pixie cut or very short hair?
Yes. Our 5–6″ Light Volume and 5–6″ Full Volume toppers are designed for shorter styles and blend beautifully once cut and styled for you.
For very small areas of thinning, the Light Volume “Mini” has a 3″ × 3.5″ base with 5–6″ of hair.
